This legislation provides that a lawful citizen who is peacefully and lawfully in possession of a firearm within 1,000 ft of an educational facility is considered to be lawfully carrying. The conflict with federal law needs to be resolved. See Federal law18 U.S.C.§921(a)(26). The law applies to public, private, andparochialelementary schools and high schools, and to non-private property within 1,000 feet (300m) of them.It provides that the states and their political subdivisions may issue licenses that exempt the licensed individuals from the prohibition.
