Let’s not pretend the system is as clean as it looks on paper. Yes—foreign nationals can’t donate directly to campaigns. But money doesn’t have to be direct to have influence. It moves through: U.S.-based entities PACs Nonprofits Corporate structures By the time it shows up, it looks “domestic.” So the real issue isn’t just what’s illegal. It’s what’s untraceable. It’s what’s layered. It’s what enforcement either misses—or chooses not to pursue. And now we’re supposed to trust that same system to decide: Who qualifies as a “foreign influence” Who gets investigated And who gets charged Before expanding enforcement power, maybe we should ask: **Can the current system even consistently enforce the laws we already have? Because if it can’t— this isn’t about transparency. It’s about giving more discretion to a system that hasn’t earned trust.
